Student secures employment through Young Apprenticeship Programme

jevan_williams_60016 year old Nuneaton Academy and North Warwickshire & Hinckley College student Jevan Williams is celebrating after securing employment as an apprentice with Hatz before he has even completed his qualifications.

The hard working student, who is now in the last year of his Young Apprenticeship programme in Engineering at the College, has already completed 48 days of work placements, many of which have been at the UK base of international engineering firm Hatz in Hinckley.

“I’m really looking forward to starting full time employment and working towards the next level in my Engineering qualifications” said Jevan.  “I’ve had a really good tutor at College and I’ve enjoyed all my work placements at Hatz. I’m happy that I’ve got a job to look forward to when I leave school. My family are all really chuffed as well.”

Hatz manufactures single and multi-cylinder engines, as well as accessories, generating and pump sets and components for partners.

Hatz Managing Director Joe Wilmer said he was looking forward to welcoming Jevan to the firm as a full time employee. He said “Jevan has been to us on several placements and from the very first day he impressed us.  He has shown a real flair for engineering and has shown the attributes we are looking for in a young person: he is keen, eager, punctual, intelligent and most important interested.  In our business it is hard to find the right staff and we are delighted that Jevan will be joining us in September.”

He also praised the College’s Young Apprenticeship Team Leader and Apprenticeship Co-ordinator for Engineering, Terry Lowe.  He continued “Terry does an amazing job and has established effective working relationships between company management, the shop floor, students and the College.”

Hatz is a German company with a worldwide presence.  The firm employs 1200 staff and has a turnover of approximately £100m.

The Young Apprenticeship programme sees students combine school study with one day a week training at the College and relevant work placements.
