Diggers are now on site and preparing the ground for this fantastic new facility which has been funded by the Football Foundation and the Department for Education and will soon be available for school and community use.
Helen McEvoy, Principal of the Nuneaton Academy, said: “We are thrilled to see work starting on this high-tech new pitch and very grateful to everyone who helped to secure the funding, including our sponsor North Warwickshire & Hinckley College. This investment in developing local athletes is a fantastic opportunity for the school and wider community.”
Nuneaton & Bedworth Leisure Trust (NBLT) will be managing the pitch and ensuring that as many people as possible can benefit from the new facility
Speaking on behalf of NBLT, Kevin Hollis said: “We have already had many enquiries about the new facility, which we envisage will be up and running in June / July 2012. We are keen to speak to anyone in the local community who is interested in using the pitch – including the local football leagues and clubs, the school sports partnership and local colleges.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I am delighted to see that work has commenced on the new 3G pitch at The Nuneaton Academy and would like to congratulate the College and the Birmingham County FA for working so tirelessly to secure the funding needed to complete the work. I look forward to seeing the end result in the near future.
"The Football Foundation is dedicated, with funding provided by the Premier League, The FA and government, to raising the standard of grassroots community sports facilities across the country and to getting more people actively playing the national sport.”
